Salvador Dali Clock
Gadget No. 0457
Salvador Dali really would have made an impression in the creatively inspired world of gadgetshop HQ. His core conceit - take an everyday object or situation and warp it out of context - was the very essence of surrealism in the late 20th century. And now you can hang it in your kitchen... and really mess with peoples' minds. Dali was a fine artist and a wondrous painter. But as a conceptual designer he was truly marvellous, if you like that sort of thing. Take this clock, for instance. It looks like a wall clock and acts like a wall clock. But look again and it seems like someone's mixed the numerals out of synch. Time itself seems to be all mixed-up, as though the clock face has been in a blender. Yet the trick is in the spacing of the hands. Evenly spaced, the clock tells the time accurate to the nearest second... it's merely your eyes that need to adjust.
Just follow the hands out to meet the face and you'll be just fine. Zany is one word for it. Eclectic another. Put it above a bar and you'll have the punters examining the contents of their glasses. In short, buy this slippery, rubbery chronograph and say 'Hello, Dali' to a distorted vision of time. And an insight into the mind of a creative genius.
