If, like many of us here at Gadgetshop HQ you spent a sizable portion of your childhood behind the sofa on a Saturday night cowering in fear at the thought of the Cybermen zapping the Doctor, then you'll also remember arcade game classics that spawned genres including Space Invaders and Pacman.

Although undoubtedly clever, engrossing and (yes) painfully addictive at 10p a go, these arcade games had some quite considerable disadvantages. At 6-and-a-bit feet tall and well over 100 kilos, they weren't exactly portable. They were the domain of older boys, so one was lucky if one could ever get a go (even if tooled up with the requisite cash), and required a mains electricity supply, so even assuming one could make off with the thing, taking it on the bus was a non-starter. In short, they were brilliantly ground-breaking but utterly useless.

Now imagine if those ever-so-clever little Japanese took all the ground-breaking brilliance of the original and best arcade games and compressed their circuitry into fabulous 21st century hand-held form. This beautifully bespoke piece of gameware requires no mains voltage, will not have a queue of teenagers gagging to get on before you, and, best of all, is portable enough to take on the bus. Or even into the loo.

If retro-cool is one's thing, then this is both retro and cool in equal measure. Now all one needs is a sofa... then let the battle commence!!
