USB Retro Lamp
Gadget No. 0805
Desklamps are ever so functional and, frankly, a touch boring. In our experience, there are really only two kinds:
1. The stainless steel ones you buy at IKEA and Habitat, which are fine up to a point. They look fabulous, have all manner of neat little switches and may even incorporate the latest halogen technology.
2. The ones that look like they've come straight out of a nuclear bunker; battleship grey, beige or buff, with socking great controls and deeply environmentally unfriendly lightbulbs.
And that's it. In this age of overwhelming choice and diversity, there are really only two kinds of desklamp (unless you bring to the office that frilly pink one your sister keeps on her bedside table).
That is until now.
Those clever little Japanese johnnies have pioneered a new level of kitsch miniaturisation, developing a generation of devices that take their inspiration from the design classics of yesteryear. Konichiwa.
This miniature USB-inspired beauty has all the classic good looks of a retro standard lamp - and is pocket sized to boot, meaning it can happily sit on one's desktop, drawing its power from your PC, and perform without a care in the world.
Let there be light. And with a USB socket to hand, one can make it a reality.
