Most men, according to my wife, Mrs Gadgetshop, have great difficulty doing more than one thing at once. Such as taking the recycling out while simultaneously remembering to bring the cat in. Some, even simpler tasks, she says, defeat us. And it's all to do with the way in which our brains are wired. Poppycock, I say.

So it is that the mere existence of the walkie talkie should cheer us men, for it disproves her theory in an instant. The walkie talkie would never have been invented were it not possible for a man to walk and, at the same time, talk, and to enable said speech to travel a great distance by virtue of an electromagnetic signal.
