And save the universe it most certainly does - and on a slightly smaller scale saves you a packet too. The considerate fella shows you how much each electrical appliance uses in watts or pounds. Portable and wireless, it monitors energy use in energy and colours.

After you attach the sensor clip to one of the wires running from your electricity meter, Wattson will calculate your average energy use and glow an angry red when you go over, and a calming blue when you're under. These funky ambient colours combined with its contemporary, cool design make the Wattson a great mood light in itself. And using 5 watts on average, which drops to under a watt in low power mode, it's an indulgence you won't feel guilty about.

And you don't just get Wattson, dear customer - you'll also have the pleasure of his software companion Holmes. Connect Wattson to your computer via USB to give you easy access to daily, weekly and monthly views of your home's energy use. Wattson stores up to 28 days of electricity use information in its internal memory and can be used within an online community to swap energy-saving hints and tips.
